ALAMOGORDO’S DESERT LAKES GOLF COURSE NAMED SCAGA 2013 CLUB OF THE YEAR
ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (December 10, 2013) – Desert Lakes Golf Course in Alamogordo, N.M., has been named the 2013 Sun Country Amateur Golf Association Club of the Year. Long a shining star in the family of clubs that make up the Sun Country region, Desert Lakes and the community of Alamogordo have continually fostered the game of golf for their area in Southern New Mexico.
The award was created by the “Sun Country Amateur Golf Association” to annually recognize a facility that has gone above and beyond in trying to grow the game of golf. Award winners set the example by creating a club where youth, recreational and competitive golf all are part of the recipe for fostering a growing golfing environment.
“We are honored and very proud of this award,” said Desert Lake Golf Course General Manager, Grant Dalpes. “Of all the awards we have won over the years this one may be the best because it represents recognition for our entire body of work. Our men’s and women’s clubs along with the staff of our various departments, the golf shop, food and beverage, and the golf course itself have all added to the success of our facility. It is really an honor to be recognized in that manner.”
Desert Lakes was able to capture the award with an impressive body of work over the 2013 season, including growing the size of their membership, hosting junior, professional, and pro-am events, running numerous individual and group teaching sessions, completing 100 holes of golf marathon to raise money for junior golf and many other growths of the game initiatives.
“Desert Lakes really is the model that we hope all of our facilities can get behind,” said SCAGA Executive Director, Dana Lehner. “Grant and his team have built lines of communication between the golf shop, all other areas of the facility and the men’s and women’s golf association that call Desert Lakes home. Together, they have created a team with a mission to make the game of golf healthier each day.”
